Numerical modeling of atmospheric aerosol and gas impurities on the example of COSMO-RU-ART system

The aerosol and gas composition of the atmosphere can influence both human health and economic activity, as well as weather and climate. The paper briefly reviews numerical methods of air pollution forecasting, focusing on modern chemical-transport models, especially COSMO-ART, adapted at the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia for use on the supercomputer of the Main Computing Center of Roshydromet. Some details of the technical realization of the COSMO-Ru-ART system are described. Taking into account the direct effect of atmospheric aerosol in the model allows estimating its influence on radiation fluxes and air temperature. Estimates of the direct effect of urban aerosol in Moscow, the case of forest fires on the territory of the Central Federal District in August 2010, and the case of forest fires of August 2019 in Siberia are considered.

The meeting of the seminar will be held in a hybrid format. Please note the change of venue for the face-to-face part: it will be held in a large conference hall on the 3rd floor of the RCC MSU. You do not need a pass to get into RCC MSC, just tell the watch that you are going to the seminar. In parallel, a webinar will be organized on the Zoom platform.
