Modeling of the lower atmospheric section of the global electric circuit.

The study of electromagnetic processes in the Earth's crust, atmosphere and near space constitutes the geophysical problem of formation and functioning of the global electrical circuit. Electrodynamics of unperturbed by thunderstorm activity and precipitation of the lower atmospheric part of the global electrical circuit along with the action of distributed global generators is determined by local processes in the atmospheric boundary layer: radiation transfer, turbulence, dynamics of aerosol particles and radioactive atmospheric impurities which ionize the atmosphere together with cosmic rays. The report presents the stages of constructing a quasi-stationary model of the lower atmospheric section of the global electrical circuit. Based on the results of numerical modeling, statistical estimates of the variability of electrical variables of the unperturbed lower atmosphere of middle latitudes are made. The results of the model calculations for determining the altitude profiles of the integral electric characteristics of the lower atmosphere column are compared with the data of balloon observations. The correlation, structural and spectral dependences of short-period variations of the volumetric charge and electric field of the unperturbed lower atmosphere, their anisotropy and dependence on thermal forcing are investigated using the three-dimensional version of the model. The results of numerical experiments are applied to the inverse problem of interpreting the results of recording variations in the atmospheric electric current density by a horizontal circular passive antenna acting as a current collector.
