Footprint: concept and evaluation methods

168th meeting of the seminar

«Mathematical modeling of geophysical processes: direct and inverse problems»

The seminar is devoted to the consideration of various aspects of mathematical modeling of physical processes in the atmosphere, hydrosphere and active layer of land, associated with solving problems arising in the study of the problems of climate change and the natural environment.

Footprint: concept and evaluation methods.

The paper presents the main stages of development of the concept of footprint, or the area of coverage of turbulent flow formation measured on specialized masts using the Eddy-Covariance method: from the empirical rule of thumb of 1:100 to the formal definition of the area affecting the signal. The existing methods and models for footprint estimation are reviewed, and cases of their practical application are demonstrated.

The seminar also will be held in the form of a webinar on the Zoom platform.
