AREAS OF RESEARCH: management of size/age structured populations; systemic risks in ecological and trade networks; economic growth under environmental constraints; agent-based modeling of regional development; regional economic integration.

BIO: Elena Rovenskaya is the Program Director of the Advanced Systems Analysis (ASA) Program and acting Program Director of the Evolution and Ecology Program (EEP) at IIASA. She is also a Research Scholar at the Optimal Control Department of the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Russia (on-leave). Her scientific interests lie in the fields of optimization, decision sciences and mathematical modeling of complex socio-environmental systems.

Dr. Rovenskaya graduated in 2003, from the Faculty of Physics, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Russia. She received her PhD in 2006, from the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Russia. In 2005, Dr. Rovenskaya participated in the IIASA Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP), and since 2006, she has been collaborating with the Dynamic Systems Program, and later with its successor, the Advanced Systems Analysis Program. She was appointed ASA Program Director in 2014. In this function, Dr. Rovenskaya is leading a team of 35+ scientists who focus the latest developments in applied mathematics and modeling towards advancing systems analysis methodologies and applications to inform decisions on sustainable transformations.
