July 29, 2018 in Brazil, Russia won against France in the struggle for the right to host the International Congress of Mathematicians. Russia will support the participation in the congress of about 1000 mathematicians from developing countries, as well as about 1300 young mathematicians of the world. The General Assembly will be held on July 3-4, 2022, and the Congress from July 6 to 14, 2022.
Such congress was held in our country only once and for a very long time - in 1966. This most prestigious mathematical forum is convened every four years under the auspices of the International Mathematical Union, and it decides to award the most significant prizes in mathematics (with the exception of the Abel Prize), including the Fields Prize (since 1936) . In addition, since 1982, the Nevanlinna Prize has been awarded at the Congress, from 2006 - the Gauss Prize, and from 2010 - the Chern Prize. Since 2010, at the closing ceremony of the congress, the Lilavati Prize has been awarded for the popularization of mathematics.
