A branch of the Moscow Center of Fundamental and Applied Mathematics at Lomonosov Moscow State University (hereinafter referred to as the Center) announces a contest for the implementation of initiative projects in the following areas:

  1. «Theoretical mathematics»
  2. «Computational Mathematics»
  3. «Theoretical computer science and discrete mathematics»
  4. «High Performance Computing»
  5. «Mathematical modeling»
  6. «Fundamental and applied mechanics»

Applications are accepted at e-mail positioncontest@mathcenter.ru in electronic form until March 30, 2020.

Application is submitted in free form. It should contain the specific name of the research that the team plans to carry out, a description of the professional level of the leader and team members, including information on academic degrees and ranks, main results and publications for 5 last years, information on previously completed projects and grants, citation indices, other additional information that applicants consider important to communicate about themselves. Also, in the application, it is necessary to briefly characterize the expected results, their relevance, compliance with the world level, expected publications. It should be noted that the team has the necessary resources, you can also include other necessary information about the research project. The application should not exceed 5 pages. The team should include at least 50% of participants under the age of 39 at the end of 2020. If the team leader himself is a young scientist and goes full time to the Center, then his salary will be paid in excess of the amount won by the team. The presence of a foreign scientist in the team is welcomed (the scientist will have to enter the Russian Federation at least for a short time by a work visa), his salary will be discussed separately and paid in excess of the amount won by the team.

The maximum possible amount of requested funding is up to 3 million rubles, this money can only be spent on staff salaries, business trips and other expense items will be carried out from the Center’s funds in excess of the amount won.

The project will be completed on December 1, 2020.

The results of the competitive selection will be announced no later than April 15, 2020, an agreement with the team leader will be concluded no later than April 23, 2020.

 

The contest received 46 applications, which consist of:

  • 23 applications in the areas of «Theoretical mathematics», «Fundamental and applied mechanics»,
  • 9 applications in the areas of «Computational mathematics», «Theoretical computer science and discrete mathematics»,
  • 14 applications in the areas of «Mathematical Modeling», «High Performance Computing»
